Rynek w Gliwicach

    Gliwicki Rynek ma kształt kwadratu, z każdej strony otoczony dwoma uliczkami, co jest pozostałością po średniowiecznym układzie urbanistycznym miasta. W centrum rynku znajduje się ratusz, a w zachodniej części placu stoi fontanna z Neptunem. Większość kamienic wokół rynku pochodzi z XIX i XX wieku i została znacznie zniszczona podczas II wojny światowej.

 

    Po zakończeniu II wojny światowej, w 1946 roku, Rynek został odbudowany i zrewaloryzowany według projektu inżyniera Franciszka Maurera, który był absolwentem Politechniki Lwowskiej i późniejszym profesorem Politechniki Śląskiej.

 

    W 2010 roku przeprowadzono wymianę nawierzchni rynku oraz badania archeologiczne, podczas których odkryto studnie. W ostatnich latach odnawiano również kamienice przy rynku.
