Pomnik Adama Mickiewicza w Krakowie

     Pomnik Adama Mickiewicza w Krakowie stoi na wschodniej stronie Rynku Głównego, pomiędzy Sukiennicami a ulicą Sienną. Został zaprojektowany przez Teodora Rygiera i odsłonięty 26 czerwca 1898 roku, w setną rocznicę urodzin poety.

 

     Monument mierzy 10 metrów i przedstawia Mickiewicza stojącego na postumencie, z czterema alegorycznymi figurami: Ojczyzna, Męstwo, Nauka i Poezja u stóp. Na cokole umieszczono napis "Adamowi Mickiewiczowi Naród".

 

     W 1940 roku pomnik został zniszczony przez hitlerowców, ale po wojnie został odbudowany z odnalezionych elementów. Zrekonstruowany pomnik został ponownie odsłonięty 26 listopada 1955 roku.

 

     Dziś jest to popularne miejsce spotkań mieszkańców i turystów. Podczas Euro 2012 pomnik był ozdabiany kotylionem w barwach narodowych Polski, Holandii, Anglii lub Włoch, w dniach, gdy drużyny te grały mecze na mistrzostwach.
