Księży Młyn - co robić w wolnym czasie

Księży Młyn

    Księży Młyn to zespół fabryk włókienniczych, głównie przędzalni bawełny, zbudowany w Łodzi od 1824 roku. Miejsce to, dawniej osada młyńska, było znane już w XV wieku. W 1823 roku młyny przeszły pod zarząd gminy miejskiej, co otworzyło drogę do ich industrializacji.

 

    Pierwszą przędzalnię na tym terenie uruchomił Krystian Wendisch w latach 1827–1830. Po jego śmierci zakład rozwijali kolejni przedsiębiorcy, w tym Karol Wilhelm Scheibler, który w 1870 roku zakupił Księży Młyn. Scheibler, pochodzący z Niemiec, szybko przekształcił teren w jeden z największych ośrodków przemysłowych w Łodzi, wprowadzając nowoczesne technologie.

 

    W latach 70. XIX wieku powstał kompleks fabryczny, w tym największa w Łodzi przędzalnia. Zrealizowano również osiedle dla robotników z domami mieszkalnymi, sklepem, remizą strażacką i szpitalem. Księży Młyn, z unikalnym układem fabryczno-mieszkaniowym, jest obecnie jednym z cenniejszych zabytków przemysłowych w Polsce, wpisanym na listę pomników historii.
